Monument is a growing town about 50 miles south of Denver in El Paso County. Monument's first homesteaders arrived in 1865 but settlement increased when Monument became a stop along the Rio Grande Railroad in 1872. The area was incorporated as a town called Henry's Station, after prominent settler Henry Limbach, in 1879. Three years later the name was changed from Henry’s Station to Monument after Monument Creek and Monument Rock in the west. With its excellent location, fabulous mountain views, numerous recreational opportunities, and historic downtown district where you'll find locally-owned restaurants, galleries, spas and boutiques, Monument is the type of charming small town you just don't find anymore.
Monument has that ideal Colorado setting sought by so many with Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains to the west and the heavily-treed Black Forest to the north and east. Summertime is packed full of local-flavor events including Concerts in the Park and Art Hop. With Pike National Forest located to the west, two regional parks within seven miles, five Colorado State Parks and dozens of top-notch golf courses within thirty miles, it becomes a challenge for outdoor enthusiasts to decide what to do with their leisure time—whether it's mountain biking, hiking, eighteen holes at the Woodmoor Country Club or hitting the Santa Fe Trail where its possible to bike all the way through Colorado Springs without ever leaving the trail.
